Many clients we see are curious about what to expect when they visit the Pregnancy Resource Center for the first time.
If a woman is facing an unexpected or unplanned pregnancy (or potential pregnancy), she might be especially nervous to visit our office or make that first phone call to schedule an appointment.
Here’s what you should know: our staff understands that this is a big deal for you, and they will do everything they can to make you comfortable!
Our #1 priority is to show you respect and dignity, in a professional and caring environment.
Below is a step-by-step guide of what to expect when you make an appointment with us to confirm your pregnancy.
All of our services are free
First, we want you to know: we will not bill your insurance company or charge you anything for our services. This includes the pregnancy test, ultrasound or any other services or resources you receive from our Center.
Bring a photo ID
We need some type of picture ID to allow us to verify your identity.
You can bring a copy of your driver’s license or non-driver’s license, passport, school ID or military ID. If you don’t have these, bring whatever ID you might have.
You will need to fill out an intake form
We will give you an intake form similar to what you might fill out at a doctor’s office. This will help us to better understand your current situation and address any concerns you might have about your potential pregnancy.
Filling out the intake paperwork should only take a few minutes.
We will review your intake
A trained peer counselor or nurse will introduce themselves and take you back to an office to review your intake paperwork.
If you have other children with you, there is a playroom where they can play (if you prefer).
We will administer your pregnancy test
Next, you will be given instructions on how to collect a urine specimen. We will give you privacy to do this, of course!
Staff will then administer the pregnancy test and you will wait for the results together for a few minutes.
Please note: our tests are lab-quality and highly accurate, but are not early-detection pregnancy tests.
We will discuss your results
There are often a lot of emotions that can surface with either a positive or negative pregnancy test result.
We will give you time and space to process these feelings and to ask any questions you might have.
If your significant other (boyfriend, spouse) attends your appointment with you, we also encourage them to ask questions! We want to make sure each of you has a chance to receive the information you need as you consider the future.
Our staff can provide medically-accurate information about pregnancy, fetal development, parenting, adoption and abortion (as well as the potential long term effects of each decision).
We will also help you to identify resources and assistance available to you- either through our Center or from outside agencies.
Choosing your next steps
If you have a positive pregnancy test, we will provide a letter of confirmation of your pregnancy, if you need it for insurance or Medicaid purposes.
Keep in mind, the best way to medically confirm your pregnancy is with an ultrasound.
We can schedule an ultrasound to help determine gestational age, location and fetal heartbeat.
After the ultrasound, we will again let you process your thoughts and feelings, and provide support and information for the journey ahead of you.

We also take Walk-in visits for pregnancy tests during normal business hours (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays from 8:30 to 4). Ultrasounds are generally by appointment only.
